SIDE DISHES...

BRISTOL WEDNESDAY IS THE TICKET!!!
Most people look at Bristol Night race weekend and think of Fri and Sat night.  Well, look again. Some of the best action happens on Wednesday.  The ultra-powerful NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour kicks off the weekend on Wednesday. It's a mid-week double-header with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series that is a must if you are in the area!

1 - We love Jennifer Jo Cobb for being a fan of Speedeats and asking us recently for a few places for her and her hard-working / underfunded team to eat while on the road. Thanks JJC!

2 - NASCAR.com journalist Dave Rodman is a pretty cool guy. Well, he just went up in our books for trying "Il Piatto Della Nonna" in Montreal. It's one of the most unique restaurants we've ever hit with Speedeats. No Menu... whatever Grandma (Nonna) cooks is what you eat.

MONTREAL NO MORE? SAY IT AINT SO?
There is a lot of speculation that the NNS race at Montreal may be the last. It would be a shame becaue it is a great racing venue, supported by loads of passionate Canadian race fans. Oh, and it is one heck of a foodie destination!

BOWMAN GRAY STREAKER?
On MD's off weekend, while most were in Michigan and Montreal, he was at North Carolina's famed Bowman Gray Stadium to enjoy some Short Track Racing action.  Something exciting always happens at the place they call "The Madhouse."   On the final night, scores were settled and champions were crowned. But as you will see in this video, there was a lot more for the eye to see

RACING ELECTRONICS
Bristol is LOUD.  Why stuff earplugs in your ears when you can buy a scanner or rent a fanview from Racing Electronics and hear your favorite driver, NASCAR, or the broadcast of the race.  It is the best way to enhance the race experience.
Bigelow's is a Long Island Seafood Tradition

MD will be making a trip up north soon... that means it's time for Flounder and Ipswich Clams!

FOODIE CORNER
It's Bristol Baby....

The weekend presents a challenge for foodies. Why? It's a night race!  The good thing is many people have time on Thursday to take advantage of lunch and dinner around the area.  Take a look at our picks and try some of them out.

If you have any new suggestions... post them up on our facebook page!

Enjoy the weekend! Mods, Trucks, NNS and Cup! Yeah, it's a good one.

Grandma cooks up truly homemade Italian specialties at "Il Piatto Della Nona" in Montreal.
Ridgewood Barbecue

Ridgewood is MD's favorite Barbecue place in the country. Benny Parson's introduced him to this special place years ago.  Ridgewood is only 10-minutes away from the track. The wait tends to be long depending on when you arrive, but it's well worth it. I take new people to this gem every year.  Order the Pork Barbecue platter with the fries. Oh, also make sure to get some of Mrs. Proffit's Baked Beans. Yum!  Also... The Bluecheese has become a local legend.

Cootie Brown's
This place is downright funky and I love it.  Huge fan of the Jamaican Jerk Chicken. Great sandwiches as well. MD took a group from Motor Racing Outreach there last year, as well as Riki Rachtman... all had fun and liked the place.

Cootie's has a creative menu but mostly is a fun experience. Try their pizzas....you can build them how you like them. If you see Key Lime cookies up by the counter... leave them along because they are all mine!

Cafe Pacific
Debbie Robinson tipped us off to this restaurant. Nearby Bristol, it's a good place for some very creative cuisine. From Black Pepper Steak to Goat Cheese Crusted Rack of Lamb, the menu is full of tasty choices. We say try the Thai Basil Chicken.

Dixie Outpost
A unique barbecue place that comes highly recommended by our pal and fellow foodie Andrew Coppley.  Andrew tells us it is a great place for bbq, wings and hot dogs and that the sauce is boss.

Cottage
It's known as a bar but the locals love to eat there too.  The burgers are said to be the best in Johnson City. ESPN's Bo Wilkes, a local, was impressed it was even on the list!

Shirley's Home Cooking
On the way to Bristol and back... this is your place! I stop at Shirley's every year on the way home from the Bristol race. It's a simple place right in the mountains off rt 321 by Watuga Lake.  This means it is also not within reason to go there during the race weekend.  The name of their restaurant says it all... Home Cooking. Simply put , that's what it is and Iove it!
