SIDE DISHES...

Speedeats on Vacation
MD is taking a week off from the NASCAR road but we went ahead and got you a list of good eats anyway! Enjoy

Other Racing....Spring Sizzler
Sizzler mentioned on Speedeats? Nooo, it can't be so?  Well, this is the good type of Sizzler. The annual New England Modified racing tradition that is Stafford Motor Speedway's Spring Sizzler is this weekend.  If you are in New England, check out this awesome Connecticut track and a great race weekend that features the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. www.staffordmotorspeedway.com

Even More Racing...
64th Season of The Madhouse
It's the first track the France Family promoted (with Alvin Hawkins)... Bowman Gray Stadium. The historic Winston-Salem, NC bullring kicks off its 64th season of NASCAR racing this weekend. Many eyes in the NASCAR world are always fixed on the place they call "The Madhouse," and for a good reason. Check it out yourself. It's a place that should be on every race fan's bucket-list

Meanwhile... Away from the Track
Not going to races this weekend but looking for something to do?  Travel to the Wilkesboro area of North Carolina for "Merlefest."  The Americana Music festival features country, bluegrass, folk music and more.  We like the music but admit, the food is amazing!  Come with an empty stomach and check out the wide array of foods cooked by local groups. Good stuff!

Marty Smith Features MD in the Tale of the Martinsville Hot Dog
ESPN writer/talent Marty Smith featured our very own Matthew Dillner in a write-up about Martinsville and their famous hot dog. Check out the colorful story  click here

RICHMOND
Dot's Back Inn

This place should be on the top of your list for Richmond. It is a favorite of many in the NASCAR garage. I know it is also a hot-spot for several people I work with in racing. It's also a favorite of Tony Stewart's crew chief Darian Grubb.

A true neighborhood hot-spot serving up a heap-load of classic diner dishes. GREAT stuff. Dot's Back Inn was also featured on Triple-D. If you don't know what Triple-D stands for, get a TV! Guy Fieri is the man.

Buz and Ned's Real Barbecue
Ok... this place is a must in Richmond. It's not hard to find but barbecue this hard to find most certainly is!  This should be your order: Beef Spare Ribs with Bourbon Apples, cucumber salad and green-chile-cheese-cornbread.  Mmmmm.  Eating on the picnic tables outside makes for a unique experience.

The Village Cafe
This college favorite is a real good place to eat some yums in Richmond. From Calzones to Meatloaf, Village Cafe will satisfy your taste buds and fill your belly with generous portions.  Nothing fancy just good local eats! Try the beer battered onion rings!

River City Diner
You want a good 50's Diner? Well, this one does the trick for sure.  It's open 24/7 so that means you can hit it before or after a long day at the track.  Bring coins for the jukebox and be ready to get full!

The Black Sheep
Night races make it harder for us NASCAR people to get dinner on the road. The Black Sheep has great lunch and dinner but what we want to highlight is their breakfast. Creativity indeed! Roast Duck Hash, Salmon Hash, Bayou Breakfast (featuring catfish) makes this a breakfast foodie find for sure.

Ronnie's Ribs Wings & Other Things
Bill Baker CAN'T be wrong. The NASCAR.com editor wrote in and strongly suggests that Speedeats.com followers hit Ronnie's joint in Richmond.

The full slab is approximately 4-pounds of trimmed ribs! Oooh baby! They are spiced with Ronnie's own rub and sauced with their yummy homemade sauce. There is not much on the menu but what they do have, they pile high on your plate. We like it that way!
