Support the Motor Racing Outreach, Speedeats.com #11 of Melanie Self. Melanie and her hustband Monte are in charge of MRO's Community Center at NASCAR tracks. They dedicate a lot of their life to ministry. Melanie will be competing in the Better Half Dash in a Bandolero car during Charlotte race weekend. The race consists of female drivers, many of which are NASCAR wives and girlfriends. The event is to raise funds for Speedway Childrens Charities and Motor Racing Outreach.

Last week in Texas we got to hit one of our favorite chain restaurants (local chain)... Chuy's Fine Tex Mex. Yeah... it's AWESOME. The original location is in Austin, TX. They opened a location near Birmingham, AL. So now their is another opportunity to dine at Chuy's while on the NASCAR road!

Garfrerick's Cafe
While the Talladega area is filled with a bunch of average food finds and chains restaurants, Garfrerick's stands at the top of our list of area food finds.
This gem is a true original. NASCAR.com's Lee Shelton and his wife Crystal raved about their food and green apple martinis. Great food, some of it grown locally. Homemade Ice Cream and some creative dinner options including vegetarian options. Gourmet, Organic and truly BIG on the yum-scale!

Hartley's Down-Home Kitchen
This cafeteria style eatery is a great food find introduced to us by a race fan named Stephen Ingram. Some know Stephen as the gentleman who got engaged Live on NASCAR.com "Garagecam" hosted by Speedeats' Matthew Dillner.
Ok...enough with that. The food is fantastic. Old fashioned southern favorites done right!
If you like meat-n-three places, go here. Dont be afraid of the cafeteria style serving... it's a real good place.

It's one of our favorite places in Alabama. That is why it's our featured video this week. Be sure to watch us having fun and getting saucy fingers while eating their world famous ribs.
It's in Birmingham but WELL WORTH the drive. Many in the NASCAR community stay in Birmy so it's around the corner for them! A favorite of our buddy Steve Post from MRN Radio.
Their sauce is great. Simple. Ribs, white bread that you dip in their sauce. A simple yum.

Flip Burger Boutique
Weird is the word for some of their burger creations. If you have the flair for the creative side of eating, check out Flip Burger. We like the Pimento burger (one of the more normal creations). Have a Krispy Kreme milkshake! One of the unique milkshake flavors featured at this bizarre food spot.

Top of the River
This is the best of the seafood places near Talladega. If you have a Garmin, it will get you there and it will prove itself to be worthy of the visit. Great seafood. Awesome catfish! We love the fried pickles in a big way. Several racers and people in the industry make the trip for a good meal. We saw Morgan Shepard there last year signing some hero cards.

The Ark
It may not be pretty from the outside but for over 77-years the Ark has been a Riverside, Alabama institution. When you walk into the joint you see pics of the owner with various racing personalities. Our favorite photos are the ones with the King Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.
You can have catfish filets or the local whole catfish! Good good stuff with a local flare.
It's right next to one of the most unusual dive-bars around "The Bootlegger Lounge" where we occiasionally karaoke. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
