PITTY PAT'S PORCH - by Colleen O'Brien

Colleen O'Brien in an Associate Producer with the NASCAR on ESPN broadcast team.  The Boston College graduate comes from a sports family.  Her father, Tom O'Brien, is the head coach for NC State's football program.  Her brother, Daniel, is a part of the Alabama football coaching staff.

The story is told that when Scarlett visited Atlanta she always stayed with Aunt Pittypat.  During those visits, Aunty Pitty would prepare only her best recipes.  At Pittpat's Porch, the tradition continues.

One chilly, winter day in December my mom and I were in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game to cheer on Alabama (my brother is a GA) and we were looking to grab a quick bite to eat and waste a couple hours before the game started.  We stumbled upon Pittypat's Porch - one might miss it if you weren't looking.  First we wondered down the old wooden stair case, passed under the old brick arches and passed by the window of the bakery where you can watch the chef make their spectacular peach cobbler or "to-die-for" pecan pie.

As we sat down at our table we noticed it was adorned with pewter service ware from the water goblets to the butter dishes, we felt truly like we had gone back in time.  My mom and I ordered from their special menu, designed for the game, for example, I had the Bear Bryant burger.  For those on a regular day, I would recommend the fried chicken, which is famous world wide.  As we ate, the restaurant had set-up a projection screen so that those fans in the restaurant could watch and catch up on the football games that day.

After having a long lunch, we leisurely headed upstairs to the rocking chairs on the "porch".  We still had 1 more hour to kill.  We sat and rested as we continued to enjoy and watch football games.  We were then ready to yell the Tide onto victory.

It was a great place to eat with a unique southern atmosphere!
